Mom 'had snatched her baby from doctor's office before ramming car and killing infant'

Just three days before an Atlanta mother allegedly killed her infant daughter by ramming the car the baby was in with her SUV, the 21-year-old woman with a history of mental illness had snatched the three-month-old from a doctor’s office.

Titayanna Phillips has been charged with felony murder and aggravated assault in connection to Monday’s crash, which took the life of her daughter, Khy’undra Henderson, and injured her ex-boyfriend and the baby’s biological father, Undra Henderson.

Police said Henderson, 27, had just placed his daughter in his car and was driving away from a location in northwest Atlanta when Phillips rear-ended his car with her SUV several times around 7pm.

Henderson lost control of his vehicle on impact and smashed into a telephone pole. When officers arrived, first responders had to pry the injured occupants out of the smoking vehicle using Jaws of Life.

Neighbor Tarangela Jones, who witnessed the chaotic scene, told WSB-TV that Phillips stood by after the crash and made a phone call.

Jones said she heard Phillips screaming, ‘I told him that I’d kill him,’ presumably referring to Henderson.

According to the neighbor, the mother also said: ‘Can you all get my baby out of the car? That’s my baby in the backseat.’

Baby Khy’undra was rushed to a hospital, where she died of her injuries. Her father was listed in stable condition on Tuesday.

Police have yet to determine a motive behind Monday’s attack, but it has emerged that Phillips had a history of mental illness and had no legal custody of her daughter

Police records obtained by Atlanta Journal Constitution indicated that Phillips had gotten in trouble with the law on at least two separate occasions in the last four weeks.

She was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct in late June, after Henderson accused her of attacking him and forcing him to jump from a staircase during an argument at her home on Eason Street.

On July 24, police were called to a medical office where staff reported that Phillips, who had arrived at the location with Henderson and their child for a medical appointment, had removed Khy’undra from an examination room and drove off with the infant.

Police contacted Phillip and ‘pleaded’ with her to return the baby to the doctor’s office, which she eventually did. According to the report, Khy’undra was not harmed in that incident.

The report also stated that the 21-year-old had an open case with the Division of Family and Children Services, which referenced Phillips’ ‘numerous current mental and physical health issues.’

According to police, a preliminary investigation has revealed that at around 7pm on Monday, Henderson placed his daughter inside his Honda sedan and was driving away when Phillips raced after them.

The woman then allegedly used her black SUV to ram Henderson’s sedan multiple times, which caused the man to lose control of his car and crash into a telephone pole, reported WSB-TV.

When police officers arrived on the scene, they found baby Khy’undra and her father trapped inside his mangled car.

The critically injured infant was rushed to a hospital, where she later died. Her father also suffered injured but survived.

Henderson commented on the fatal crash on Facebook early Tuesday morning, writing: ‘Um blessed to be alive but without khy’undra this sht don’t even matter.’
